Eat small regular meals

To help prevent tiredness, you need to maintain a constant supply of energy. You can do this is by eating five or six small meals a day, rather than three large ones. By doing this you keep your blood sugar levels stable, keeping energy lulls at bay. It a good idea to eat whole grain foods as these are digested slowly, providing the body with a constant supply of fuel.

Drink plenty of water

Mild dehydration can affect your mental and physical performance. A loss of just 1% of your body's water stores can cause you to feel sluggish. Make sure you drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day and more during hot weather and exercise.

Plan ahead

Always have a supply of healthy snacks with you, so that you can eat something at the first sign of tiredness. This will help stop the energy drain and stop you from eating high fat snacks. Good snacks include muesli bars, fruit loaf, and dried or fresh apricots.

Stretch

Stretching for two to three minutes will loosen your muscles, ease joints and allow blood to flow more easily around your body. Whether you're at your desk, at home or stuck in traffic, stretching as many parts of you as possible will give you more energy and help relax you at the same time. Stretching larger muscle groups, such as the quads (front of thigh) hamstrings (back of thigh) and gluts (buttocks) will also increase blood flow.

Move

Exercise, such as taking the stairs instead of the lift or increasing your walking speed, increases your heart rate and requires you to breath a little harder, which increases oxygen in your system and boosts your energy levels.

Don't get too stressed

When you're bombarded with stressful situations it's hard not to let it get on top of you. Make sure you can manage your stress and take some time out for yourself so it doesn't affect your health. High stress levels sap your energy sources by affecting your sleep and weakening your immune system. The less energy you devote to stress, the more you will have for the things you enjoy.
